So today I went around to a few of the local school campuses to give some of our students our invite cards for tonight. WOW! Our students take this serious. I cannot count the amount of students that were literally running up to me and begging for more cards to hand out because they were all out. It is incredible to see the passion in these students to change this Valley for Jesus. Praise God.

I am so excited about tonight as we begin a new sermon series tonight called Frozen // Overcoming the fears we never thought we could. This is going to be an AMAZING/POWERFUL series as we discuss the fears of losing control, failure, and rejection.

This week we begin a new series at SHIFT Students called PLAN of ACTION. Oftentimes in our faith journey we have obstacles we want to overcome, but we never seem to conquer them. We have that sin we can’t defeat, the fear we can’t face, and the person we can’t seem to forgive.
In this series, PLAN of ACTION, we will be confronting these three topics. Make sure to stay tuned. It is going to be a great series.

• First off, this series was amazing. Students responded each and every week to three very difficult topics. In this series we discussed abuse, sexuality, and hell. Three topics churches don’t typically discuss. We decided to share with the students on what scripture teaches about them and it turned out to be a very powerful series. You can read more below and even watch the messages if you would like. Enjoy!
• Abuse. The angle we went discussing abuse was to discuss all forms of abuse. It didn’t matter if you were the abusee and the abuser, either way, we discussed all forms of abuse. In any form of abuse, it occurs in the spiritual darkness. The challenge was to shine light where there was darkness. God desires for light to expose darkness, thus forms of abuse are discovered, and then God can begin to heal brokenness.
• Sexuality. We took a VERY different approach this time talking to 7th-12th grade students. This was a three-part message. My wife Julie was up first with the “girl talk” while the guys got to sit in and listen, then I spoke to the guys having the “guy talk while the girls go to sit in and listen, then collectively we discussed the story of David and Bathsheba in 2 Samuel 11. It was a powerful night for students to hear different perspectives and the sexuality God desires and where the sin begins.
• Then to close the series out, we discussed the reality of Hell. Hell is a major conversation amongst academic, theological, and Christian circles right now. So rather than shying away from this topic, we took the approach to teach on what Jesus taught on. This was a powerful night to help students out because eschatology shapes our ethics. So if the understanding that Heaven and Hell are a real place, then the lives we live would be much different.

1 // God provides! The fall is always a new season for any ministry or organization, but this is especially the case in Student Ministries. Students across the country are getting ready to begin a new school year. This is also a season that some leaders transition off of staff, which is normal, but it is always sad to see leaders go. But it has been amazing to see new leaders step on staff in areas we have really needed. This always reminds me that God provides.
2 // I love passionate Students! I love Students that come in our Wednesday Night Experience late because they are racing to be here after their sports practice. They always run in the building in their football pads or sports clothes and are passionate about being here and worshipping the Lord with their church family.
3 // Life Change for Jesus Rocks! We are currently in a series called “Reflections: The Book of James.” James is a book that gets straight to the struggles most people have in their faith journey. Last night we were discussing the idea of submitting everything to the Lord. 10+ students made a decision for the Lord last night. I love seeing our decision room full with loving leaders praying over them.

Thanks for reading this! The reason I am writing this is to be honest and transparent as a leader and to ask for prayer for the ministry I have the privilege of running at CCV. SHIFT Students is the Student Ministries at Christ’s Church of the Valley in San Dimas, CA.
We are getting ready to enter a big season of ministry. Every fall students begin to go back to school, which forces them to change the habits they have had over the course of the last three months. Every time students begin to go back to school, they begin to make new habits. It is in these times of transitions that students are open to new things. I WANT TO CAPATLIZE ON THIS.
I pray to see hundreds and thousands of students all across the United States of America find the hope, love, and purpose Jesus offers. I want them to find the personal relationship Jesus offers and longs for.
So please, as each student ministry across this country begins to enter a new school year, PRAY THAT THE GOOD NEWS OF JESUS WOULD BE EXPOSED TO HUNDREDS AND THOUSANDS OF STUDENTS.

1 // Outdoor Service. SHIFT Students had an outdoor service last night and it was truly remarkable. There is something about worshiping the Creator in His creation that is moving.
2 // Leadership. This leadership team of SHIFT Students is one of the best in the country. The way they respond to everything is out of the desire to change their world for Jesus. If something goes wrong, they respond quickly, without excuses, and it turns into a positive. If I ask for something to be done, they do it, but they do it better than I could have dreamed of doing it. They are leading in their giftedness and it shows. Lives are being changed for eternity because of the leadership here.
3 // Prayer is Powerful. Last nights message was on the power of prayer. Prayer can change people. Prayer gives hope to the broken. Prayer is communication to the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords that can overcome anything. And why do we not believe in the power of prayer?
4 // Excitement for the Fall. This year is going to be an amazing year for SHIFT Students. The leadership is in place and there are amazing things planned. Last night I could sense the anticipation of saving students from each and every school campus in the Valley this year.
